November 8, 2018

In Macomb Hornets’ season opener against the Wanette Tigers on Nov. 1st, the Hornets simply proved the stronger team, defeating Wanette 65-46. In what was a back-to-back, the Hornets dropped their second game of the season, allowing Paden to double them in points, losing 90-45.

In Macomb’s battle with Wanette, the game appeared to be won on the glass, as Macomb out-rebounded Wanette 45-22. The leading scorer for the Hornets was Curtis Taron as he went 3-5 from 3-point land and 5-8 from the field for 15 points, while also having eight turnovers. Riley Johnson boasted the Hornets’ only double-double of the night, pulling down 13 rebounds, with seven of those being offensive, and 10 points. Worth noting is Kolby Withee with his seven steals on the night after shooting a mere 2-12, and 5-6 from the charity line for nine points.

For the Wanette Tigers, scoring came by-and-large from T. Phipps, who led the way with 20 of the team’s 46 points. Following Phipps was A. Oates with seven and B. Ashley with five.

After splitting the back-to-back, up next for the Macomb Hornets is a road trip to New Lima on Nov. 6th at 8:00 pm. New Lima lost their season opener to Varnum 98-60.
