Rick Gage, Randy Gilbert Win Top Chamber Awards For 2018

November 22, 2018

Dr. Trevor Conklin and Dr. Kyle Karnish of Vision Source accept the Business of the Year award from Ronnye Sharp.

Tecumseh's Citizen of the Year was not on hand to accept his award last week, but plenty of other award winners were.

Rick Gage, owner of Tecumseh Oxygen & Medical Supply, was named the winner of the top award at the Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce's annual meeting and banquet last Thursday night, Nov. 15, at Tecumseh City Hall. Gage was out of town filming for an outdoor show.

The other nominees were Randy Gilbert, Eddy Parker and Ronnye Sharp.

Sharp, current president of the chamber, presided over the evening's events and was able to present the Business Person of the Year award to Randy Gilbert of Gilbert & Sons Trucking, who had also won the award in 2010. Other nominees for that award were Gage, Norma McKiddy and Parker.

Other awards presented at the banquet included:

• Business of the Year - Tecumseh Vision Source. Also nominated were Canadian Valley Electric Co-Op, Cooper Funeral Home, Logic Aviation, McKiddy Investments & Rentals and Oklahoma Family Dentistry.

• Small Business of the Year - Action Physical Therapy. Other nominees were AllNations Bank, Broadway Building, Make It Yours, Rustic Rose and The Doggie Spot.

• New Construction of the Year - There were two nominees, and both were winners. The Tecumseh Early Childhood Center won for the public sector, and Yearwood Designs won for the private sector.

•Business Renovation of the Year - Rustic Rose. Also nominated were Make It Yours and Tecumseh Oxygen & Medical Supply/Action Physical Therapy.

• Friendliest Employee of the Year - Leda Canada of Gilbert Insurance.

• Chamber Volunteer of the Year - Brenda Kennedy.

Winners were chosen by the chamber's traditional balloting process: first, a round of nominations and then final balloting. Also chosen during that process were three new members of the Chamber Board of Directors, Luke Fugate, Jimmy Jordan and Pam O'Rorke. They will begin three-year terms in January, replacing Dr. Kyle Karnish, Brenda Kennedy and Landon Qualls.

Sharp also introduced incoming president Kacy Kinsey, who presented Sharp with the outgoing president's award.
