Sales Tax Receipts Are Anemic

If sales tax collections were graded the way report cards are, most Pottawatomie County communities would be lucky to get a "C" for their October sales tax performances as reported by the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

A few examples:

•Shawnee, far and away Pottawatomie County's largest tax producer, managed to take in only 2 percent more than it did in October 2017 - in spite of the fact that the city's sales tax rate was increased from 3 percent to 3.5 percent beginning Oct. 1 of this year. If...
