Wolves Dominate Season Opener

The Shawnee Wolves opened the basketball season on the road Nov. 27, taking on the Harrah Panthers. The Wolves won 71-45, getting their season off to a strong start.

Shawnee shot 52.9% from the field - 58.1% (18-31) from within the perimeter and 45% (9-20) from deep - with their best shooting quarters being the first and third as they shot 66.7% in each.

The Wolves also had their most assists (5) and steals (5) in the first quarter. The Wolves logged 16 assists and 11 steals, while turning over the ball 14 times. Shawnee grabbed 46.2% of the offensive rebounds (12) and 67.6% of the defensive rebounds (25), bringing their total to 37.

Harrah only shot 25% in the first quarter, 26.2% overall. Harrah went 22.7% from beyond the perimeter. The Panthers got 26 rebounds and 15 turnovers while boasting zero assists and only steal. Harrah shot 58.1% (18-31) from the free throw line while Shawnee shot 53.3% (8-15) with the Panthers attempting more than double the amount of FTs than the Wolves.

Leading scorers for the Wolves were #15 Tyler Heubert and #22 Jaylon Orange. Heubert connected on all three of his shots from within the perimeter and added two 3s for 12 points. He also had seven assists and two steals. Orange also logged 12 points, going 4-6 (66.7%) from the field while also hitting the only 3-pointer he attempted. Orange also went 3-7 from the line. He also had four rebounds and one assist. #5 Darius Edwards hit 40% of his 3s, going 2-5 from deep.
