Shawnee Undefeated In District Play

January 10, 2019

Undefeated. That is what Shawnee boasts in district play as the Wolves' first district opponent, the Guthrie Bluejays, hosted Shawnee on Jan. 4 to open 2019.

Shawnee saw its second highest scoring total of the season, tied with the season opener back on Nov. 27 against Harrah, as they defeated Guthrie 71-52. Shawnee has scored 70 or more in three of their last four games and are 4-0 when scoring over 70 points.

The teams were all tied up at halftime 27-27. Shawnee won the third quarter 17-14, giving them the 44-41. Shawnee caught fire in the fourth, shooting 10-11 from the field – connecting on all shots within the perimeter and going 1-2 from deep – compared to Guthrie's 4-12 shooting. They also went 6-8 from the free throw line, winning the quarter 27-11. That was the big difference in the game as Shawnee ran away with it 71-52.

Shawnee's Deandre Love (19), J'Briell Easley (17), and Jaylon Orange (16) carried the scoring charge for the Wolves as they combined for 52 points. Love went 7-12 from the field, even leaving five points at the charity strike as he went 4-9 from the free throw line. Love also contributed on the defensive end, collecting a team-high four steals. Easley missed all three of his threes but connected on all but one of his nine shots from within the perimeter. Love and Easley both added seven rebounds. Orange went 7-8 from the field, connecting on both his threes.

Shawnee, now 4-4 and winners of three of their last four, will have their 2019 home-opener against the 4-1 Newcastle Racers on Thursday, Jan. 10, in their one and only meeting. Shawnee will not play another district game until Jan. 29 when they welcome back Guthrie.
