Vigil Held In Honor Of Teens

January 31, 2019

Services for two Tecumseh High School students killed in a tragic automobile accident late Saturday afternoon will be held this weekend and early next week.

Logan Deardorff, 18 and Shelby Johnson, 17, both Tecumseh students, died when a Honda Accord driven by Roger Dean Flint, 61, of Shawnee, struck Deardorff's Mustang from behind on 45th Street between Aydelotte and Chapman.

The impact knocked the Mustang several hundred feet. Both vehicles were traveling east. According to a Shawnee Police Department report, two witnesses said the Accord "ran off the road multiple times before the accident and was traveling at a high rate of speed."

Although some social media reports said Flint was also killed in the accident, police said he was injured but stable as of Monday night at OU Medical Center.

Hundreds of the teenagers' friends participated in a candlelight vigil Monday night at the Tecumseh Alumni Center. Johnson's funeral will be at 11 am Saturday at the Alumni Center, and Deardorff's at 2 pm Monday at FireLake Arena.
