Tecumseh Seals The Win In Overtime Defeating Bethel 51-45

The Tecumseh Lady Savages basketball team started at home and then found themselves a long way from home last week but found some success on the court. The T-Town ladies were 3-1 on the week and came away with another Consolation Title in the process.

The Lady Savages opened on Tuesday at home against Bethel and came up with a rare win over the Lady Wildcats. To get the win, it took an extra period for Tecumseh to finally earn the victory. Bethel led 10-8 after the first period before the Lady Savages won the second quarter and led 18-17 going to halftime.

The Lady Wildcats got the upper hand in the third quarter 10-9 as the game was knotted at 27 a piece headed to the fourth quarter. Both teams heated up on the offensive end in the final stanza, but neither team could gain an advantage and the game ended tied 44-44.

Tecumseh took control in the overtime period and hit free throws down the stretch to grab the 51-45 win over the Lady Wildcats.

Madison Day led the Lady Savages in scoring with 14-points and was followed closely by Schantel Evans with 13. Addison Day dropped in nine-points and Tawny Billy added six. Bailey Carpenter had four-points, including two big ones in overtime. Channing Scallorn tossed in three-points and Katelyn LaFrance had two in the win.

Bethel's Kennedy Gregory led all scorers with 17-points in the loss while Kirsten Winters poured in 11. Brooke Shaw added seven to the Lady Wildcats total.

After getting the win at home, the Lady Savages traveled all the way to Altus for a tournament on Thursday and had a rough start as they fell to the Home School Athletic Association (HSAA) of Dallas 54-27. The Lady Savages were run over in the first half and trailed 34-10 at halftime.

The never say die Lady Savages came back in the third quarter and won the period 14-12 and cut the lead to 22-points. HSAA finished Tecumseh off in the fourth quarter to seal the win in a run away.

Addison Day led the Lady Savages with nine-points in the loss. Billy had four-points while Scallorn and Marissa Gouge each tossed in three.

Tecumseh had trouble scoring in the first game of the tournament but found the cure in the consolation bracket as the destroyed the Amarillo Flames 67-17. The Lady Savages started fast and dominated the game all four quarters.

The Lady Savages led 16-3 after the first quarter and then rushed to a 34-5 overwhelming lead at halftime. The rout continued in the second half as the T-Town ladies outscored the Flames 33-12 the rest of the way.

LaFrance led the Lady Savages in scoring with 15-points, including three treys. Addison Day was also in double digits with 10-points. Evans and Scallorn each poured in eight-points in the win. Madison Day knocked down five-points while Taylor Mansell, Billy, Baylee Crawford and Emily Bingham each added four. Every Lady Savage on the roster scored in the game with Gouge getting three-points and Carpenter had two.

The win propelled the Lady Savages to the Consolation Finals where they met Elgin's JV squad. Again, the Lady Savages started fast and led 11-5 after one and withstood a closer second quarter to take a 21-13 lead into halftime.

Tecumseh pulled away in the third with a 13-2 run and led 34-15 going to the fourth quarter. The final stanza was close, but the Lady Savages easily secured the win, 41-21 to take the Consolation Title, their second one in the last two tournaments.

Crawford and LaFrance led the way for Tecumseh with eight-points each. Evans had six and Madison Day tossed in five. Carpenter and Billy each had four-points while Addison Day and Scallorn each tallied three.

With the three wins last week, the Lady Savages improved their win total to 8-11 on the season and will be home tomorrow (Friday) night to meet Prague for homecoming and then will be on the road on Tuesday at McLoud.
