Shawnee Bond Issue Fails

Shawnee school district voters no to the passage of a new $12.5 million school bond issue proposed for funding interior and exterior renovations, needed maintenance work and other improvements at the elementary schools and district-wide, plus upgrading the district’s aging school bus fleet.

Proposition No. 1 received 329 yes votes, which is only 56.05 percent of the required 60 percent approval rate to be successful.

Proposition 2 also received 329 yes votes.

Passage of the issues would have added one additional year to the property tax Shawnee voters are already paying toward the $32 million bond issue approved in 2016.
