Body Discovered On Benson Park Road.

August 19, 2019

Pottawatomie County Sheriff Department received a call early this morning regarding a body on the side of the road. Initials reports said this was a possible hit and run.

The body was reported around 7 am just east of Gordon Cooper Drive on Benson Park Road. However, Sheriff Mike Booth said they don’t know if this is a hit and run. Booth said investigation of the surrounding area indicates this could possibly be a homeless person who had been camping in the brush in that area. The scratches on the body, some of which are old scratches, could have come from the individual making his way through the bushes.

Booth said two medical examiners and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol had been called in to examine the body and the area to assist in the situation. “Doesn’t look for sure as if it was a hit and run,” said Booth. “It is possible the individual died of natural causes.”

Booth said they are gathering all the information they can, including video from the area before making a final determination.

The Countywide & Sun will continue to update as new information is received.
