Lady Indians, Pretty Close To Perfect

August 29, 2019

Ask any coach. No season is absolutely perfect. But the head coach of the Asher Lady Indians’ fast pitch softball tea, Tari Dubler, might say this one has been pretty darn close.

Her squad is 6-1 and is ranked No. 10 in Class B. This last week Asher saw three wins to zero losses, one being a shutout, with Asher giving up a combined four runs in the other two wins.

Where last week was all about Jordan Odell, this week Odell came back to earth just a little bit, despite her team going 3-0 since then. Beginning at Tupelo August 20, Asher saw 12 hits to Tupelo’s five, which equated to Asher getting the victory 13-2.

The story on that day was Asher’s Alexis Francis, who had four runs and two hits. Not to be overlooked, Francis’ teammate Tannah Hamilton had three runs and four RBIs. Both Francis and Hamilton were responsible for one homerun each in the contest.

A couple days later Asher headed to New Lima where they treated the home team to a 12-0 shutout. Jordan Odell nearly got herself yet another no-no as she threw for nine strikeouts and just one hit. Francis kept swinging from the Tupelo onslaught, getting herself two hits in this contest. Makinize Odell had herself a game on par with Hamilton as she went for three hits on four at-bats and four RBIs.

The final game of the week for Asher – their third straight road game – was against Paoli. The Paoli Lady Pugs did not put up much of a fight as Asher won easily 11-2 in a game where Paoli actually had eight hits to Asher’s nine. Paoli did have six errors. Jordan Odell this time led the way with her batting, recording three hits and two RBIs. Tannah Hamilton also had three RBIs.

Asher will have returned home to face Vanoss Tuesday to round off August. The last time the Lady Indians played at home they lost to Roff 6-1 – their only loss on the season. They will remain home until Sept. 16 when they head out to play Varnum. Asher is 3-1 at home this season.
