Spend Some Time In A Good Museum
November 7, 2019
Have you adjusted to the time change yet? Just two months left until 2020!
I want to salute our veterans as Veterans Day approaches. Come by the Tecumseh Historical Society museum on Saturday 10 am and 2 pm to see the new military exhibit. Thank you for your service to keep this country free!
Usually our thoughts do not turn to our astronauts as veterans, but I visited the Stafford Air & Space Museum in Weatherford recently. Ten astronauts came from Oklahoma, and this museum does an excellent job covering the evolution of aviation beginning with the Wright brothers to space travel.
Would you like to see real rocks from our moon missions? Go visit this museum, a Smithsonian affiliate. General Thomas Stafford, former resident of Weatherford and graduate of WHS, flew four historic space missions; he was Commander of Genimi 6, Gemini 9, and Apollo 10.
For his efforts as Joint Commander of the U.S. and Soviet Apollo-Soyuz mission, he received a Nobel Peace Prize nomination. This was the first international space flight as the American Apollo and the Russian Soyuz docked together in orbit, and Stafford greeted the Russian cosmonaut in space, the forerunner of our present space station.
General Stafford is retired and lives in Florida. He turns 90 years old next year. This museum is a must see!
