County Donates Twelve Lots To City Of Shawnee

December 12, 2019

The Pottawatomie County Board of County Commissioners donated lots located at 12 different addresses to the City of Shawnee during the special meeting held Monday, Dec. 9. County owned properties on Oklahoma Street, Park Street, Market, Minnesota and Pennsylvania were requested for a joint venture between Central Oklahoma Community Action Agency (COCAA), Mike Little and Norman Seaberg.

Little just completed townhouses in downtown Shawnee as well as the renovation of the Woolworth building. For more information on the renovation of the buildings and the additional housing projects, read the story on page A1 by Virginia Bradshaw.

Commissioners initially scheduled a special meeting for Thursday, Dec. 5, to donate the property, but had asked for clarification on the proper wording and statutes to make the donation. No action was taken during the Dec. 5 meeting and another special meeting was called for Dec. 9.

After clarification from Cheryl Wilson, County Management Services with the State Auditor’s office, the board also rescinded a motion made on Oct. 21 to donate properties to the Shawnee Urban Renewal Authority. Under Title 19 O.S. §349 the county commissioners are authorized to deed land not needed for county purposes to a city in which the land is within the city limits.

The board then approved the donation of the properties to the City of Shawnee. These properties were requested by South Central Industries to provide residential housing to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Tina Hannah, executive director of SCI, said they have a lot of “clients that just need assistance.”

The board will hold its next regular meeting Monday, Dec. 16, at 1 pm at 14101 Acme Road.
