Bethel Third In FUB Tourney; Girls Consolation Champs

Bethel's Devin Acklin takes it to the hoop in action against Byng.

Bethel Wildcats took home the bronze in the First United Bank Classic hosted in Bethel last weekend.

The boys outdid McLoud 60-43 to advance to the semifinals, where they faced off against Byng.

The score ping-ponged back and forth the whole game, but it was Byng who took the 42-38 win.

In the third place game, the Wildcats took on the Chandler Lions and secured the third place spot with a 61-42 win.

In the Byng game, John Gordon scored seven points, followed by Devin Acklin with six, Jesse Tucker with five, Drae Wood scored three, Jalon Gordon two and DJ Whitten one.

In the first half of the Chandler game Bethel was hot, heading into the locker room with a 43-23 lead. Scoring was more evenly matched in the second half with Chandler outscoring the Wildcats by one point.

Against Chandler John Gordon recorded the team high with 14 points, followed by Jesse Tucker with 12, Jace Stewart and Jaylon Gordon with eight, DJ Whitten and Devin Acklin with six each, Drae Wood with four and Evan Fry with three.

The Lady Wildcats also earned high marks in the tournament with the consolation title after beating Tecumseh 53-42.

Bethel's Mekayla Gentry fights for the ball in action last Thursday against Chandler.

The Lady Wildcats took a hit in their first game when they barely lost to Chandler 51-48, but stepped up their game for a 55-47 win over Bridge Creek for a spot in the consolation title game.

In the Bridge Creek match up Parker Stevenson racked up over half the team points with 26 total for the game. Kelsie Wood followed with 13. Kennedy Gregory added 11 and Skylar Pollard finished with five.

Parker Stevenson had another outstanding game against Tecumseh, scoring a game high 24 points.

Kennedy Gregory scored eleven points, Kelsie Wood scored seven, Paige Hubler scored six and Laney O'Rorke scored five.

Both the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats are now 3-2. They'll pick up after Winter Break Jan. at Mount Saint Mary.
