The Lady Savages suffered a heartbreaker in their opening game last week and then bounced back to win the Consolation Championship at the Shortgrass Tournament in Altus over the weekend.

The young Lady Savages showed some youth in the game on Tuesday night against Mt. St. Mary (MSM). What looked like a sure win with just over a minute left in the game turned into a loss with some Lady Savage errors.

Tecumseh started strong against a very good Lady Rockets team with a 13-8 lead after the first quarter. MSM won the second quarter, but the Lady Savages still led 23-20 at halftime. A low scoring third quarter was won narrowly, 6-5 by the Lady Rockets, but the Lady Savages had not surrendered the lead.

The final quarter was a frenzy, but the Lady Savages had built a six-point lead with just over a minute left in the game. Tecumseh couldn't finish as MSM hit the game winner just before the buzzer to claim the 40-39 nail biter.

Tawny Billy led the Lady Savages with 12 points and Kenzli Warden was in double figures with 10.

The scoring was spread over four Lady Savages with Katelyn LaFrance tossing in nine points and Schantel Evans scoring eight.

On Thursday the Lady Savages began play in the Shortgrass Tournament and faced a very good Dallas Thunder team. The Thunder won the first period 19-12 and extended the lead to 31-17 as the Lady Savages only managed five points.

Tecumseh came out of the locker room and outpaced the Thunder 15-5 to cut the lead to just four points at 36-32 as they headed to the fourth quarter. The final stanza was a real battle, but the Thunder edged the Lady Savages 18-13 in the quarter to take a 54-45 win and send the Lady Savages to the consolation bracket.

Billy led the Lady Savages in scoring again and Warden was in double digits with 11. LaFrance poured in eight points and Evans tallied seven while Taylor Mansell knocked down five-points.

On Friday, the Lady Savages bounced back with a 56-15 demolition over the Altus JV squad. Tecumseh was up 17-6 after the first quarter and held Altus scoreless in the second quarter to lead 30-6 at halftime. Tecumseh cruised in the second half and played the entire bench on the way to the win to move to the consolation finals.

Billy and Warden again led the way with 17 and 14 points respectively. Paige Lowther threw in five points while Evans chipped in with four. Sabryn Grayson, Mansell, LaFrance and Marissa Gouge each had three-points while Sadie Boatman and Emily Bingham each added two.

In the consolation title game, Tecumseh faced an old nemesis in Star Spencer. This time the Lady Bobcats were no match for the Lady Savages, although Star had the lead after the first quarter 11-10. The T-Town ladies came on strong in the second holding Star to just a point while scoring 21 of their own to give Tecumseh a 31-12 halftime lead.

Star won the third quarter 14-11 before the Lady Savages again took control defensively in the fourth winning the period 11-3 on the way to the 53-29 win and the Consolation Championship.

LaFrance led the Lady Savages in scoring in the finals with 15 while Warden had 11-points in the win. Billy added nine points and Evans scored six points. Mansell and Baylee Crawford were good for four points each while Gouge and Bingham each added two.

With the consolation title, the Lady Savages moved their season record to four games above .500 at 10-6. The Lady Savages will be home tomorrow (Friday) night as they host Little Axe for homecoming. Tecumseh will play its final home game of the season on Tuesday night as they celebrate senior night against McLoud.
