Two Savage Football Players Win All Star Honors

January 30, 2020

The Tecumseh Savages’ gridiron squad ended the season in the playoffs for the first time since 2012. The Savages finished the regular season with a record of 7-3 and third place in tough District 4A-2.

With a successful season comes recognition for some of the team’s players. The Savages have two players selected to the 4A All-Star by Class, Jackson Phelps and Clayton Rackley. Phelps was named All-Star as an offensive lineman and Rackley was named as a defensive back.

“Jackson only got to play in nine games,” said Savage head coach Ty Bullock, “and he had a tremendous season. He was a coach and teacher on the field to the younger guys on the team and he was dominant at his position. He is definitely worthy of the honor.

“I thought Clayton was one of the best defensive backs in the state,” said Coach Bullock. “He’s gotten bigger and stronger and faster and made a lot of big plays for us. He also runs track and was a state champion last year on the 4x800 relay team. He runs on every relay you can imagine. He is very deserving of being named All-Star.”
