FireLake Foods Reserves First Hour For Seniors

April 30, 2020

Sarah Lawrence of the FireLake Wellness Center fulfills online to-go orders at FireLake Discount Foods March 25. Employees from across Citizen Potawatomi Nation programs and enterprises have helped at the grocery stores because of the increased demand.

To better serve those most vulnerable to COVID-19, FireLakeFoods has reserved the first hour of operations for seniors and others deemed high-risk by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

A full list of store hours can be viewed online at FireLake- Foods.com/my-store.

Locations include:

• FireLake Discount Foods and FireLake Corner Store in Shawnee

• FireLake Express Grocery in Tecumseh

• FireLake Express Grocery in McLoud FireLake Foods is also taking the following precautions:

• Deep cleaning and fully stocking stores before they open each morning

• Offering more onthe- go options at Fire- Lake Discount Foods in Shawnee for high-risk customers with orders of 15 items or less

• Implementing a Health Safety Checklist in conjunction with CPN Health Services, which prohibits anyone entering the stores if they are under the age of 65 and have a fever of 100.4 or higher, are age 65 or older and have a fever of 99.6 or higher, or are experiencing a cough, shortness of breath or have had direct exposure to COVID-19.

Additionally, high demand has strained FireLake Foods' normal wholesaler - staff is working with different suppliers to ensure essentials are always instock.

This may result in higher prices when only organic products, for example, are available.

"As a local grocer, we know our community places significant faith in us, and we don't take our commitment to Pottawatomie County lightly," said Richard Driskell, director of FireLake Foods. "We strive for retail excellence and will continue to do everything we can to keep our shelves fully stocked with needed resources and are prices low."

The stores have also implemented floor guides and safety shields, and have placed limits on some items. However, limits have been changed or dropped on other items.
