Shawnee Public Schools Announces Positive COVID-19 Case

Shawnee Public Schools announced Thursday that an assistant coach had tested positive for COVID-19.

Superintendent Dr. April Grace said, in a letter to the public, the COVID-19 positive coach was on campus on June 18. The coach interacted with three students by the tennis courts on that day, according to the letter. All individuals involved in the interaction were practicing social distancing at the time.

The families of the students involved were contacted and asked to follow exposure guidelines, Grace said in the letter.

"We are also researching any other potential interactions," the letter reads.

As of June 26, Pottawatomie County had 26 known active cases of COVID-19, according to data from the Oklahoma Department of Health.

In the letter, Grace reminds the public of ways to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus:

Stay home from work and avoid other people if you feel sick.

Teach children to wash their hands properly, and often.

Teach children to practice social distancing.

Teach children to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze.

Be sure to set a good example for children, by modeling these behaviors yourself.
