Delaine Ray Baxter

August 20, 2020

Delaine Ray Baxter was born at his grandmother's house on Sept. 12, 1952, to Leo Sr. and Lola Baxter. Growing up in Nicoma Park and graduating Choctaw High School in 1970, he furthered his education at Central State University with a bachelor's degree in education, then went on to earn two master's degrees.

He began his teaching career at Choctaw High School, moving to McLoud schools for a 30-plus year span. During those years, he was a teacher, wrestling coach, and driver ed teacher, ending as the vice principal at McLoud High School.

He never met a stranger, and could be brutally honest. He had a memory like an elephant and a heart of pure gold. He was an avid golfer, a longtime member of the Choctaw Golf Association (CGA), and enjoyed traveling. Each year, he looked forward to attending the OU vs. Texas game in Dallas, TX. Delaine was an avid skier with his friends until just a few years ago, and loved hosting a good poker game,

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leo Jr. and Tommy. He is survived by two sisters, Susan and Eva, and three brothers, Bill, Rowdy, and Michael as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.

Memorial donations may be made in Delaine's name to McLoud School Foundation; a scholarship will be awarded in his name in Spring 2021. Send any donations to P.O. Box 802, McLoud, OK 74851.
