Bethel Wildcats Kick-Off Friday At Home Against Crooked Oak

October 8, 2020

Bethel enters week six of the Oklahoma high school football season tomorrow night against an opponent, Crooked Oak, who has played only once. It's 2020, and COVID-19 has affected all aspects of life, including the high school gridiron.

The Ruf-Nex have arguably had the roughest season of all teams. They had to shut down for both weeks of scrimmages, then weeks one and two, they played week three (a 33-7 loss to Hennessey), and then shut down again for weeks four and five. Bethel Head Coach Joey Ginn's team will host them tomorrow night. "Their kids are excited to play; they're excited to practice."

It's been a tough time lately to be a Crooked Oak football player. They've won one game since their current seniors have been in high school, and that was in 2018 against a Wellston team who is now playing 8-man football. Since 2014, Crooked Oak has posted a record of 5 wins and 56 losses.

Ginn, however, described them as being athletic and tough to prepare for. "They run a tight end trips set that will be tough to defend and on defense we expect to see them operate out of their 4-3 alignment but also think we will see some Bear looks too."

Unfortunately for the Ruf-Nex, Bethel is coming off a disappointing 55-14 loss to Washington. Coach Ginn's approach this week has been about focus. "Our kids were upset after that game. We talked about getting back to playing great team defense like we did to start the season. Also, we're excited about our running game right now. Our message is simple: do your job! We will do that starting this week."

The current series between Bethel and Crooked Oak is tied (3-3) and spread out over 35 years. Previous teams played in '86, '87, '92, '93, '04, and '05. Kickoff is set for 7 pm.
