Tecumseh Revises Stipend Qualification Requirements
June 3, 2021
The Tecumseh Board of Education approved a revision to the district's recent stipend plan during a five-minute special meeting on Monday, May 26.
A one-time stipend payment of $500 or $250 for all qualifying personnel was originally approved during the board's regular meeting on May 10, "in recognition of the hard work during challenging times experienced due to the COVID-19 Pandemic."
During the special meeting, Superintendent Tom Wilsie said of the approved plan, "Part of the requirement on that, for the $500 or $250, restricted some from getting the $500 ... and I just felt like that wasn't our intent. Our intent was that if they were here Sept. 1, when we started school, we were going to reward them with a $500 stipend – if they worked half the year it would be the $250. This limited it if they didn't work full time."
He said the revised plan allows a few additional employees to qualify for $500. Qualified employees employed on or before Jan. 4, both full-time and part-time, will qualify to receive $250.
The revision was unanimously approved, which also included a change in the qualification date for the required completion of Safe Schools Training prior to June 15,rather than June 30 as stated in the previous plan.
To qualify for either stipend, employees must also have actually performed services for the district during the 2020-2021 school year, and remained continuously employed until May 21.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 14, at the Tecumseh Early Childhood Center.
