Savages Kick Off Season

September 2, 2021

It’s football time in T-Town…finally. It seems it takes a long time for football season to get here and then a short time before it’s over. So, let’s enjoy the time we have together and pray for a safe and virus free season.

The Savages open the season at home tomorrow (Friday) as they host Perkins-Tryon for a non-district game. Tecumseh was supposed to go to Perkins last season to open the season, and then some virus got in the way and the Savages had to travel to Ft. Gibson for a replacement game.

“The Demons have a new coach this year and they have an outstanding quarterback in Gunner Thrash who will replace an All-State quarterback from last year,” according to Tecumseh Head Coach Ty Bullock.

Coach Bullock says that the Perkins offense is multiple and the quarterback “throw it around and run some.” The Demons have a big running back, #24 Stephenson, who is also Perkins’ best defensive player as he plays tackle and defensive end.

“They feed off those two guys (quarterback and running back) offensively,” says coach Bullock. “They are talented and have a game under their belt already as they beat Chisolm handily last week.”

“Defensively, it’s kind of unorthodox, some call it a Prowler Defense because some of the plays everyone is standing up and moving around,” Bullock said. “They’ll bring pressure from multiple spots at different times. We need to be very sound up front and offensively to pick up what they send.”

The coach also says they are very good on special teams. “They ran the opening kickoff back to start the game and they had a punt return for a touchdown and had another punt returned all the way before it was called back on a penalty.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm at Tecumseh.
