Arson Suspected In Shawnee House Fire

Tuesday evening, Shawnee Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire. Shawnee Police Department Lt. Vivian Lorenzo-Stafford said Coy Brown was arrested for Arson II and Public Intoxication. Shawnee City Manager Andrea Weckmueller-Behringer said city code enforcement staff had initiated contact with the owner of the house located in the 300 block of N. Cleveland in early March. Staff and the owner were discussing options for the property but no decisions had been made. She said the house was “unlawfully occupied” and did not have utilities on and Brown was not the owner. The fire is still under investigation.
