Tecumseh Waste & Water Increase Approved

Tecumseh residents can expect a slight increase to their monthly water and sewer bill (around $4). At the May City Council Meeting, the council unanimously approved the rate increase. City manager, Jimmy Stokes explained that the city has been accruing debt for sewer services since 2007. The billing cycle affected will begin in mid June and first appear on the July 31st statements.

Shawnee High School Seniors Receive A Number of Scholarships

Shawnee High School’s Class of 2024 received a number of scholarships and awards during a special recognition ceremony Monday evening. Shawnee Public Schools staff, members of the Shawnee community and representatives from colleges and universities were on hand to honor the seniors.

McLoud Seniors Receive McLoud School Foundation Scholarships

The McLoud School Foundation (MSF) presented ten $1,000 scholarships at the McLoud High School Academic Awards Program held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. The following students were presented scholarships by MSF President Austin Carroll: Madalynn Xzylee Ladybug Taylor, Haylee Nicole Wooten, Ciera Judith Dunn, Jaiden Lynn Williams, Paisley Jo Erskine, Coulson Dale Kennedy, Santos Ivan Lujan, Harlee Rae Marchant, Logan Marie Hough and Stacey Angelina Nash. Each scholarship check will be awarded in the spring of 2025 after the student has successfully completed the fall semester at an accredited school of higher learning and upon presentation of their fall transcript, with the check being paid directly to the school.

Four candidates are vying for the position of Mayor: the incumbent Ed Bolt, Edwina Butler-Wolf, Rob Morris, and Eric Stephens. The Pottawatomie Advocates for Voter Education (PAVE) held a forum on Monday, May 13, and all four candidates participated.

TPS Board Still Accepting Candidates, Recognizes Support Person

The Tecumseh Public Schools Board meeting started off with the presentation to Support Person of the Month from Tecumseh High School, Mika Wireman. Assistant Principal Rodney Buss commented, “it has been an honor to work with Mika all these years. In fact, she’s been with me longer than most of my relationships. That shows how strong of a person she is… If Mika misses a day, we are in shambles.”
