The Avedis Foundation awarded The Salvation Army in Shawnee a $20,000 grant on July 21 to help them reach a fundraising goal of $150,000. The $150,000 was matched by the Paul Milburn Match Fund and allows The Salvation Army to have $300,000 in unrestricted, operational funding.

The Salvation Army is the only overnight emergency housing facility in Shawnee. Its central location in downtown is convenient for those in need of services. They have provided emergency shelter services since the 1980s.

“The staff, board and volunteers of The Salvation Army - Shawnee have humbly served our community for well over 100 years,” said Avedis Foundation President and CEO Kathy Laster, Ph.D. “It is a privilege to provide this grant to Captains Patrick and Stacey Connelly to assist them in carrying out their mission to serve those in our community that need them the most.”

In 2021, The Salvation Army in Shawnee provided 343 individuals emergency shelter. The shelter has provided 2,867 nights of emergency shelter so far this fiscal year.

“The success of The Salvation Army in any community is directly linked to the commitment of local community partners who empower our organization to do the most good for our neighbors in need,” said Salvation Army - Shawnee Captain Stacey Connelly. “We appreciate and value this partnership with Avedis.”
