The Pottawatomie County Board of County Commissioners approved the purchase of a bus for Dale School, utilizing education sales tax funds.
Brent Vanlandingham said the school had recently had a couple of buses down due to transmission problems. Vanlandingham said he had been in contact with South Rock Creek Superintendent Ryan Rosser who had a bus the school was accepting bids for. Dale submitted a bid and was awarded the bus for $4,600.
Vanlandingham said the bus had about 36,000 miles on it and was in great shape.
The board also signed a contract Monday, Nov. 28, with the Shaughnessey Group to produce educational videos about the workings of county government.
Dist. 1 County Commissioner Melissa Dennis said one of her goals since she first took office was to educate the public about county government.
Daniel Shaughnessey with the Shaughnessey Group said, “Both Shaughnessey Group LLC production and distribution models will be utilized through the contract period with the county. Since inception, my company has pro- duced informational videos and, for decades, established and submitted video distribution through Shawnee CTV networks. Currently, any local resident who has internet access can watch Shawnee CTV on a phone, device, or television. We look forward to working alongside the county to help our residents come to a fuller understanding of the benefits provided by the Pottawatomie County government.”
Dennis said, “I’d like to see something where we are educating the public, getting the more involved in county government.
Dennis said the contract is a five-year contract that will have to be renewed each year.
“I would suggest we sit down before the renewal time every year and analyze what we’ve done.”
The total contract for year one is $42,267.
During the meeting held Monday, Nov. 14, the board approved the use of educational sales tax funds for Maud Public Schools to pay towards the completion of its PE center/safe room.
Superintendent Cindy White said there was almost a 50 percent increase over projections when the bids came in.
The board also approved a resolution for the issuance of qualified Single Family Mortgage Revenue Bonds by trustees of the Pottawatomie County Home Finance Authority. Donna Rogers with The West Law Firm said the program is meant for lower-income families. It can help take up to $2,000 off their taxes.
The County office will be closed on Thursday and Friday. Offices will resume regular hours on Monday, Nov. 28.
The board will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Nov. 28, at 9 am at 14101 Acme Road.
