There was a good crowd at the annual Pottawatomie County Junior Livestock Show Pig Roast and Trophy Auction held at the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Event Center on Feb. 7.

For the second year in a row, PCJLS Chairman Randy Gilbert said, “We didn’t know who would be able to attend.”

Committee members reached out to sponsors again this year, and the sponsors came through and covered the trophies just as they did in 2021.

“We have a great group of sponsors,” said R. Gilbert.

Suzanne Gilbert said, “We fed around 500 people!”

Folks enjoyed the musical entertainment provided by “Some Assembly Required” as they made their way through the lines where 4-H and FFA students filled the plates with the traditional meal of pork loin, beans, rolls, and a choice of cookies for dessert.

Mark and Jeff Craig, and Jeremy Frye began cooking the pork loins before the sun came up on Feb. 7, and the leftovers were auctioned off to the highest bidders at the end of the night.

S Gilbert said $50,045 was raised during the auction and will be used for the PCJLS Premium Auction on Mar 4, 2022.

Two honorees, Gina Rounsaville and Jeremy Frye were recognized during the event.

Rounsaville is a graduate of Tecumseh High School, where she was very involved in 4-H and FFA. She continues that by volunteering and helping students at many local events, including the PCJLS, Pott. County Free Fair, and the International Finals Youth Rodeo.

Rounsaville spends countless hours entering everything into the computer in the spring and fall, making sure every penny matches up and everyone gets their check.

Frye has been an educator in Pottawatomie county for 20 years, serving as an Ag Teacher/FFA Advisor at Tecumseh, Principal at Macomb and Asher, and now as the AG Business Coordinator at Gordon Cooper Technology Center.

Frye has a passion for young people and helps transform them into leaders. He believes that every child has potential, and his goal is for them to be successful young adults.

Under his leadership, Tecumseh FFA was recognized as a National Three Star Chapter, the highest award nationally, for 10 of his 15 years at Tecumseh.

The PCJLS will begin with the sheep show Tuesday, Mar. 1 at noon and continue daily through Thursday at the Heart of Oklahoma Expo Center.

The Premium Sale will be held Friday, Mar. 4, at the same venue. Awards and Scholarship Presentations will begin at approximately 6:30 pm, followed by the Premium Auction. No animals will be in the ring for the auction this year, but exhibitors will be present with gift baskets prepared to give to the winning bidder.
