Tecumseh Schools Considers Energy Costs Savings Agreement

Body

The Tecumseh School Board met Monday, July 11, at the Tecumseh Early Childhood Center to discuss and vote on several agenda items for the 2022-2023 school year.

Most notably, the board discussed a potential agreement with Entegrity Energy Partners. According to their website, Entegrity is “an energy services, sustainability and solar development company specializing in the implementation of energy conservation and renewable energy projects.” Entegrity has worked with school districts across the country, suggesting energy savings measures that optimize building performance and lower energy costs. The energy savings measures Entegrity suggests saves school districts between 15% and 30% per year.

Entegrity’s preliminary district analysis estimated that through renewable energy updates, Tecumseh Public Schools could save between $58,400 and $116,700 annually on energy costs. Entegrity estimates Tecumseh Public Schools could save over $2 million in 20 years.

The board will potentially approve an investment grade audit (IGA) with Entegrity. Approval of the IGA would allow Entegrity to fully evaluate Tecumseh Public School’s facilities and give a thorough report of what needs to be updated, installation costs, and the minimum savings amount the district can expect.

The district will provide ALICE active shooter training to all district employees, including support staff, from July 25-29. Superintendent Robert Kinsey said after the school shooting tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, school safety has become the district’s top priority. Each district employee who attends will receive a $150 stipend. ALICE stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter, and evacuate. The one-day, eight-hour training will be tailored toward each school’s specific needs.

After tabling them at the June 27 meeting, the board approved the 2022-2023 student handbooks for Tecumseh Early Childhood Center, Barnard Elementary, Cross Timbers Elementary, Tecumseh Middle School, and Tecumseh High School.

The board approved a $422,000 paving project bid with Silver Star Construction for facility parking lot improvements. The project is tentatively scheduled for October 3 through October 31.

The board renewed an agreement to continue allowing the Tecumseh Youth Sports Association to use the Tecumseh High School football field to play their home football games.

The district will host enrollment day on July 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Tecumseh High School Alumni building. Enrollment day will be in-person for the first time in two years after being online due to Covid-19. Students will be able to receive required immunizations, get their schedules and fill out required forms prior to the start of the school year.

The school board will meet next on August 8, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at the Tecumseh Early Childhood Center.
