    Body

On Sept. 10, Tecumseh High School Principal Randy Dilbeck saws into sections a branch which fell from a pecan tree growing along the entrance road to the school. Dilbeck estimates that the tree is over 100 years old, but it may have to be cut down due to carpenter ant damage, which makes the pulp light and unable to withstand strong winds. Dilbeck said they have been forced to cut down two large red oaks by the tennis courts, a pecan by the baseball field, and a pecan by the bridge, as well. He noted that there is another large, old tree by the football field which is dying, probably due to drought, which may need to be taken down soon. "We hate to lose history," Dilbeck said, but it has to be done sometimes.
