At the recommendation of Superintendent Robert Kinsey, the Tecumseh school board approved a slew of contracts for the 2022-2023 school year at their June 13 meeting.
Most notably, the board approved an insurance bid from the Oklahoma Schools Insurance Group (OSIG) for the 2022-2023 school year. OSIG is a different company than the district has used for school insurance in the past, and their bid was the only one the district received for the 2022-2023 school year. There will be an increase in price this year, but Superintendent Robert Kinsey said, “It’s not just Tecumseh, this isn’t just our district that’s having the premium raise. Every district I’ve checked with said the same thing.” Kinsey also said OSIG is responsive and has helped the district in times of need.
During the Super intendent’s Report, Kinsey outlined the district safety plan. He communicated the district’s plan to offer ALICE active shooter training through the Tecumseh Police Department to prepare school personnel for the event of an active threat. He said the district plans to finish the ALICE training before the 2022-2023 school year starts. He also mentioned the surveillance system and secure entrances the district already has at all of the schools.
The board approved four contracts with the Oklahoma State School Board Association (OSSBA), including membership renewal, employment services, board policy services and board meeting assemble services.
They approved the renewal of the contract between the district and the Center for Education Law. The district has partnered with the Center for Education Law for two decades and receives legal advice and services at a discounted rate for a small upfront fee.
After a brief executive session the board approved 11 resignations, 12 temporary contract hires, and two hires for the 2022-2023 school year.
Resignations were approved for Felicia Jackson, Shannon Stallings, Tamera Daniel, Jordan Chaves, Dara Campbell, Ashley Potts, Lisa Lyons, Sallie Hammons, Aaron Roberson, McKenzie Hearn, and Annette Azlin.
Temporary contracts were approved for Christian Timmons (Cross Timbers Elementary), Jessica Brown (TMS Counselor), Jennifer Lasseter (Barnard Elementary Counselor), Indiana McNutt (THS English Teacher and coaching duties), Easton Marrs (THS Head Baseball Coach), William Best (Cross Timbers Elementary Teacher), LaKeta Ille (Barnard Elementary Instructional Coach), Karla Buchanan (THS Instructional Coach), Brittany Burgess (Barnard Elementary Paraprofessional), Billy Don Sigman (Wrestling Assistant Varsity and Head Middle School Coach), and Madison Long (Barnard Elementary Secretary).
Victor Cope is hired for the 2022-2023 school year as the Director of Title VI and Impact Aid for the Tecumseh School District. Amy Williams is approved as a Geography teacher at Tecumseh Middle School.
The board also approved contracts regarding professional development, student information software, accounting software and services, advisory services, public relations services, and building inspections.
The next school board meeting will be on June 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Tecumseh Early Childhood Center.
