A scaled-down Blues on Broadway drew a small crowd to Tom Terry Park, in Shawnee, on June 18.

Unlike last year’s wine-tasting with several winery booths and a beer garden housed under a large tent, this year saw one beer booth and one winery booth.

Dell Kerbs, with Safe Events for Families, said, “We did have more wineries scheduled. Due to staffing issues and the heat, several canceled.”

There were a few other vendor booths, and the India Shriners offered face painting and balloon animals or items.

There was also a bouncy castle, and Stanton Pace, with Bowser’s Peace Sanctuary, offered free rides in the Spirit Coach, pulled by “Spirit,” the Belgian draft horse.

And, of course, there were performances of the blues by the Michael Lee Band and Kevin Vaughn & the Backup Blues Band.

Kerbs cites other events occurring on the same day as a possible cause of the smaller crowd.

“Planning events can be challenging. There were several events in the area throughout the day,” said Kerbs. “With that being said, it is good to have options.”

“The music was fantastic; the food was great. We were light on vendors, but with everything going on in the area, that is to be expected. All in all, we had a very successful last event.”
