Tecumseh Public Schools approved a base bid from Silver Star to repave the parking lots at Barnard Elementary, Cross Timbers Elementary, Tecumseh Middle School, and Tecumseh High School.

The Tecumseh School Board approved the $422,000 base bid from Silver Star on July 11, and the Pottawatomie County Board of County Commissioners approved the use of educational sales tax monies to cover the project on Monday, July 18.

The paving project is expected to begin on Oct. 3 and be completed by Oct. 31. Superintendent Robert Kinsey said the $78 per square yard for possible repairs as the equipment is leaving the project site will be covered by existing building money.

The Commissioners approved the purchase of a 2022 Ford F550 Ambulance for REACT at $174,330. Willis Snowden with REACT said the purchase price of the truck brand new is $235,000. However, REACT opted for a remount, which means you take the boxes off the old and bolt them on the new units. “Chances are, you get another five or six years out of the box,” said Snowden. “It’s solid aluminum, and with all the price increases we’re dealing with, we’re saving about $50,000 to $60,000 per unit by remounting.

“Remounting has been fairly successful,” Snowden said.

He said Osage, the company that provides the remount package, guarantees the weld for the lifetime of the boxes.

The board also approved the annual agreement with REACT to help fund the roving paramedic unit in south Pottawatomie County. Snowden said that Pottawatomie is one of only two areas in Oklahoma that he is aware of that provides this service. He also said he was contacted by a New Mexico group looking at ways to cover large areas better and wanted to know how “our program had worked over the years.”

The board approved $166,050 out of the use tax monies to help fund the project. Commissioners Eddie Stackhouse and Melissa Dennis voted yes. Commissioner Randy Thomas abstained, stating he is on the REACT board and felt it was a conflict of interest.

A surface agreement was approved between Pottawatomie County and Reach Oil and Gas to drill a producing well on county property located near the County Barn in Dist. 3 in Maud. The county will receive $15,000 for surface damages, easements, and rights of way.

A tort claim filed by Lori Dustman for a broken windshield was approved. Dustman asked for the $1,000 deductible to be covered to replace the windshield.

Eleven new OMMA Certificates were approved during the meeting. The companies who received approval were Leo Sun, LLC, Leo Sun II, LLC, Leo Sun III, LLC, Spun Gold, LLC, Chunky Buds, LLC, Green Vella Farm in South Park, LLC, R&Y Brothers, LLC, Shan Creek Farms, LLC, Phong Ly, LLC, Modern Medical, LLC, and Pure Green, LLC.

The board will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting Monday, July 25 at 9 am at 14101 Acme Road.
