George Benson Jones, 75, of McLoud, OK passed away on January 6, 2024. George was born September 26, 1948 to Ethel Merrel, soon adopted by Casey and Erma Jones. George graduated from Longview High Hchool in 1968.
After graduation, George joined the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1973 and honorably served in the Vietnam War. During this time, George was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign with three Bronze Star Medals, Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation.
Upon returning, George attended the Police Academy and became a Shawnee Police Officer for nine years before settling in at Tinker AFB, where he retired after 37 years of service.
George married Ladonna Sue on June 28, 1979. They were married 35 years before Ladonna preceded him in death in 2015. Together, they had one child: Robyn Lynne Watkins of McLoud and three stepchildren Dale, Susie, and Lisa. George has two grandchildren Hunter and Kylyn, seven step grandchildren, nine great grandchildren.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Robyn and Kyle Watkins of McLoud, one sister Anne Boyd of TX and one brother Roy Hayfer of FL and numerous family and friends, survive him.
