Orvil Churchwell

Orvil Churchwell was born in Pauls Valley, OK on Sep. 9, 1926 to Luther and Mary Ethel Churchwell. Orvil attended Macomb School where he completed the third grade. He then had to help the family by working crops in the field.

Orvil joined the US Army, but due to a health problem, he was medically discharged before finishing boot camp. Orvil later worked as a tile layer for several years, but finished his working career by retiring as an employee at the Shawnee Milling Company. He then worked in his large garden on his property north of Shawnee.

He married Irene on July 3, 1964. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 3. 2014. July 3, 2024 would have been their 60th, but Orvil went to be with Irene in Heaven instead. What a celebration!

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two daughters, one son-in-law, one grandson, one great grandson, and fourteen brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory are his eight children and their spouses, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and one sister; other extended family and many good friends.

Services were held on July 8, 2024 at Living Love Christian Center, 1000 N Kennedy in Shawnee with Bro. Mark Guinn officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee. Services are under the direction of McElyea & Owens Funeral Group of Shawnee.
