In 2004, J.D. Sanders poses by the sign for the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing’s “Camp Andy” at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, which was named for “Master Sgt. Evander E. “Andy” Andrews, the first American serviceman to lose his life in support of Operation Enduring Freedom,” according to the U.S. Air Forces Central website. In the Air National Guard, Sanders served in Qatar and Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War, working on the Logistics Readiness Squadron, shipping needed items to the front lines.
