In honor of her late father's, author Tony Hillerman's, 100th birth year, author Anne Hillerman speaks during an Oklahoma Literary Sites Register plaque dedication on March 15 at Shawnee Public Library. Her father was born in Sacred Heart, and she has fond memories of visiting her mother's family in Pottawatomie County as a child.

Smith's father, Joseph Grove, is a cousin of Tony Hillerman, Anne's father, and attended school in Sacred Heart with the late author. Mr. Hillerman never signed the book, "The Joe Leaphorn Mysteries," when he gave it to his cousin.
The Shawnee Public Library is now an Oklahoma Literary Site, through the Friends of Libraries in Oklahoma (FOLIO). After a plaque dedication ceremony on Mar. 15, it will always be linked to the memory of author Tony Hillerman.In 1925, Hillerman was born in the Catholic community of Sacred Heart, south of Shawnee, according to the program.
