Bernice Gibson passed away Oct. 14, 2024.
Bernice was born Oct. 7, 1936 in Little Axe, to Charley and Bessie (Spoon) Gibson.
Bernice was a proud member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe and a fluent speaker of the Shawnee language. She loved to watch football, especially the OU Sooners and the Kansas City Chiefs. She was a big fan of Elvis. She was an avid bowler and competed in many tournaments.
She is preceded in death by; her parents; her sisters, Martha Gibson and Loretta Gibson; her brother, Clarence “Mac” Gibson; and her nephews, Curtis Gibson and Charles Gibson.
Survivors include; her brother, Walter R. Gibson, of Lewisville, TX; her nieces, Gloria Gibson and Edward White of Norman, Pamela Gibson of Norman, Edna Gibson of Norman, and Martha Gibson of Tecumseh; nephew, Leon Yandell; grandchildren, Sharon Sampson, Braxton Gibson, Morgan Gibson, Kylakay Gibson, Tyler Gibson and Jennifer Gibson; her great-grandchildren, Brayden Sampson, Ayden Sampson, Alexis Gibson, Layla Sampson, and Laura Gibson; longtime friends Barbara and Dora May; her favorite cat Ringo; and many other extended family and friends.
Tribal Rites were held on Oct. 15, 2024 at Bernice’s Home in Little Axe with Glen Mann officiating. Burial followed at the Gibson Family Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
