Danny Kuhl Smith, 80, of Norman, OK, died Nov. 2, 2021, at his home.
He was born Oct. 4, 1941, to Elmer Neal and Emily Grace (Acklin) Smith in Canton, MS.
Danny attended Bradford High School in Bradford, AR, before enlisting in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962. During this time he served in Korea.
In 1959 Danny met the love of his life Carolyn Jean Freeze, they married March 23, 1962. Danny and Carolyn moved to Little Axe in 1972 where they have resided for the last 49 years. While living here they have become members of the Etowah Baptist Church.
He worked many years at the Little Axe Public Schools as a Maintenance and Transportation Director. Danny and Carolyn were long-time members and callers of the Norman Silver Spurs Square Dance Club. They spent many years traveling across the U.S. with the square-dance group and his career as a truck driver.
He has been to all 50 states and 49 of them have been driving a semi-truck.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents; Elmer and Emily Smith; brother, Harold Smith; and sister, Camilla Edens.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Loran Greenlee of Shawnee, OK; son, Darrell Smith of Little Axe, OK; daughterin-law, Tammy Smith of Little Axe, OK; son and daughter-in-law, Derrick and Penny Smith of Little Axe, OK; his grandchildren, Chanda Carreon, Israel Carreon, Ashley and Josh May, Jennifer and Dallas Williams, Clifton and Devon Smith, Brandon Smith and Jessica Norris, Cana and Jacob Hall, Travis Smith, Bryan and Jennifer Bain; his great-grandchildren include, Emiliano Carreon, Kadenn May, Elena Carreon, Keylee May, Paxton Williams, Parker Williams, Sawyer Smith, Paytin Williams, Huxley Smith, Roman Smith and Arden Smith; siblings include, Jackie and Harvey Ferguson of Texas, Marty and John Cox of Arkansas, Kay and Charlie Fortson of Arkansas, Judy and Don Turner of Norman, OK; brother-in-law, Charlie Edens of Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Rick and Lori of Frontier Hospice, for taking wonderful care of Danny during this chapter of life.
Service was Nov. 8, 2021, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Paul Bettis, Etowah Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed at Brown Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
