Malcolm “Butch” Edward Cushman Jr. passed away July 25, 2023.
Butch was born April 10, 1944 in Dexter, ME to Malcolm and Thelma L. (Spratt) Cushman, Sr.
After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force then was shipped to Pakistan during the Vietnam War. He did basic training at Loring AFB in Limestone, Maine, then was stationed in Goodfellow AFB in TX. He proudly served his country from 1963-1969 until he was honorably discharged.
Upon his discharge from the military, he later met Sondra Tatum in Odessa, Texas on a blind date. Eight days later, they were married on May 7, 1976 that began a wonderful 47-year love story.
Butch had a career in sales until his retirement in 2001. He was on the Macomb School Board and was the founder of the Westside Neighborhood watch in Shawnee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Betty Burgess, Skip Blake and Jackie Cushman.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sondra Cushman of the home; son, Justin Cushman and wife Genise of Denver, CO; three daughters, Victoria Stewart and husband Jeremy of Shawnee, OK, Carmen Vasquez and husband Taz of El Paso, TX and Nichole Cushman of Shawnee, OK; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
Per Butch’s wishes no formal services will be held. Cremation arrangements by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. There will be no viewing.
