Summer is officially coming to a close. I know it doesn’t feel like it when you stroll outside but for student athletes it’s basically over. Tecumseh High School begins on Aug. 11 and practice for most fall sports begins the week before.

After a busy summer, much of it spent working hard to improve their skills, the Savages and Lady Savages will be hard at work next week preparing for the fast approaching season.

Volleyball begins the season with a tri-match at Sapulpa against the host team and McAlester on Aug. 8. But the week before that they have scheduled scrimmages against Shawnee, North Rock Creek and Seminole. Tecumseh volleyball is already working hard preparing for the season as they began practice on July 18 after spending a few days at the Baylor Volleyball Camp.

The Lady Savages’ first home volleyball match is on Aug. 11 at 5:00pm. Tecumseh has six home dates, with most showcasing the Freshmen, JV and Varsity teams. Besides the regular season contests, the Lady Savages will play in four tournaments during the season.

Tecumseh Cross Country is busy finalizing their schedule for the fall season, which normally begins at a meet in Purcell the last week of Aug., with practice beginning on Aug. 1, which gives the runners about three weeks to prepare for the grueling long distance season.

Cross country is returning five runners on the guys side, including a state qualifier. The ladies will have a full team this year with at least five runners. Tecumseh will host a Cross Country Meet sometime in September.

Lady Savage Fast Pitch Softball is coming off a banner season with another state tournament run last fall and will begin practice on Aug. 1. The Lady Savages will scrimmage at the Westmoore Festival on Aug. 3 where they’ll play a couple of different opponents. On Aug. 5, Tecumseh will host Dale for their last scrimmage before the season begins on Aug. 8.

Tecumseh opens at home on the eighth facing a tough opponent as they host Blanchard. The Lady Savages will have eight regular season home games to showcase their talents for local fans. Tecumseh will also play in three tournaments as well as three festivals this season.

After a summer of Savage Pride conditioning, Football begins for the Savages on Aug. 8 with limited practice (Helmets, shorts and t-shirts) and ramps up to full practices on Aug. 12. Tecumseh takes a long bus ride to Madill on Friday, Aug. 19 for a scrimmage and the following week, on Thursday the 25th, the Savages travel to Ada for the final scrimmage.

The Savages will open the season on Friday, Sep. 2 with a very tough matchup at Perkins. After the road trip to Perkins, Tecumseh comes home for three straight home games beginning with long time rival, Seminole.

Yep, sounds like summer is over.
