Two Savages have qualified for the State Wrestling Tournament, and another is a state alternate. The Savages competed in the Regional Tournament in Clinton last week and finished 12th as a team.
JD Sigman, a sophomore, placed third in regionals wrestling at 145-pounds. In round one, Sigman got a decision over Madill’s Brandon Stevens and won his quarterfinal match with a 3-1 decision over Cooper Moses of Weatherford.
Sigman was pinned in the semifinals by Tuttle’s Reese Davis before bouncing back with a pin over McLoud’s Brant Becknell. In the third-place match, Sigman pinned Blanchard’s Blake Witmer to move on to the State Tournament. Sigman had a 19-10 record on the season.
Junior Jace Frazier, wrestling at 160, qualified for state with a fifthplace finish in Regionals. Frazier got a pin over Madill’s Wylie Combs in the first round before losing a close 5-4 decision in the quarterfinals to Blanchard’s Ethan Warren. Frazier then pinned JJ Martin of McLoud in the consolation round two. Frazier’s season record is 29-5.
In consolation round three, Frazier took a major decision over Stephen Johnson of Perkins-Tryon. He then lost a decision to Bridge Creek’s Skyler Bean, 9-5, before taking the fifth-place match with a 7-2 decision over Weatherford’s Ethan Bracken.
At 106-pounds, sophomore Cole Loudermilk took sixth and is an alternate. After a round one bye, Loudermilk was pinned and came back in the consolation round two with a win by major decision and a win by pin in round three. He was pinned in the consolation semifinals and lost the fifth-place match to claim sixth place.
The State Wrestling Tournament is tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday at the State Fair Grounds Arena in Oklahoma City.
