Tecumseh High School has a new head baseball coach and it’s someone who is a Tecumseh lifer and bleeds Black and Gold. Easton Marrs, a 2015 Tecumseh graduate was approved by the Tecumseh Board on Monday to lead Savage Baseball.
He was hired officially on Monday as the head coach but was already an assistant to the Savage squad this past season and has been busy taking care of Tecumseh Baseball’s summer schedule during June. “We’re running them out there trying to get better,” said Coach Marrs. Also hired on Monday was Indiana McNutt, who will be Marrs’ assistant coach.
The Savages have a busy June schedule, including 11 games this week, as they will face 10 different teams in the Monday through Wednesday league and will play in tournaments on some weekends. Tecumseh has 13-players available for the summer and expect to have about 20 for next spring.
After graduating from Tecumseh High School, Marrs went to Rose State briefly before moving to Seminole State where he received an Associates Degree. At Seminole State, he worked with the Trojans Softball team for a season before moving to Trojan Baseball as a Student Assistant for one season and then as a Graduate Assistant the next year.
While with Seminole Baseball as an assistant, he spent his time working with the catchers, was a Base Coach and did some recruiting and was in charge of the field maintenance.
After graduating from Seminole State, Marrs went to East Central University and received his Bachelors in Kinesiology and then his Masters in Education and Sports Management. In 2019, he was a Student Assistant on the Tiger Baseball staff, then served as a Graduate Assistant to the team in 2020 and 2021.
At East Central, he was an outfield coach and a corner infield coach and coached third base while being responsible for the offensive game plan for the Tigers.
Besides being a Tecumseh student K-12, Marrs spent last year as an assistant for Savage Football and Baseball. As a Tecumseh Savage himself, he was a varsity football and baseball player. He played catcher for the Savages and was a linebacker and tight end for the Tecumseh football team and also spent time as a deep snapper and kicker.
When asked about being hired as a head coach at his alma mater, Marrs had this to say. “I kind of thought one day it would happen but didn’t really think it would be this quick. I feel like I’ve been well prepared for it over the past seven-years. I’m super excited to be back home. I’m happy to be here and there’s nowhere I’d rather be.”
It’s a big year for Coach Marrs in more ways than just adding head coach to his name. In December, the coach will take another big step by marrying his long-time girlfriend, Katie Moore. Katie and the coach have spent most of his college time together and will tie the knot as they settle into a new life. Katie works for First National Bank in Shawnee.
