Melvin “Mel” Richard Aloway, 90, passed away May 22, 2026. He was born on Nov. 30, 1935, in Shawnee, OK, to Charlie and Vida Aloway.
Mel graduated from Shawnee High School in 1953 and, following graduation, proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years. He owned his own construction company, later served as Department Head for Construction Technology at OSU Institute of Technology, and also worked as an estimator for Boeing.
Mel shared over 70 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jo. Together they built a life centered on hard work, love, and family.
Mel is survived by his daughter, Tonya Reeder of Livingston, TN; son Keith Aloway and wife Nancy of Broken Arrow, OK; son Steven Aloway and wife Cindy of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren: Twyla Whited and husband Billy of Monroe, TN; Brandon Wood and wife Pam of Monroe, TN; Ben Reeder of Monroe, TN; Adam Aloway and wife Nicole of Shawnee, OK; Lisa Aloway of Shawnee, OK; James Aloway of Broken Arrow, OK; Austin Aloway of Littleton, CO; and Jace Aloway and wife Hannah of Highlands Ranch, CO; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; his sisters: Pat Gaddert and Janet Brooks; and his brother, Jimmy Aloway.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters: Lil Hale Peltier, Charlene Means, Betty Cato, and Billy Jo Kemp; and his nephews: Chuck Sweeden, Britt Sweeden, Greg Burnett, Glenn Kemp, and Richard Kemp.
Services will be held on May 29 at 2 pm at Walker Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Wanette Cemetery.
