Florence (Johnston) Burns, 92, of Tecumseh died Jan. 11, 2022, at her home.
She was born April 10, 1929, to Arthur and Idaho (Smith) Johnston in Atoka, OK.
Florence was raised in Earlsboro and Shawnee.
She met her future husband, Leo Burns, at Garrett’s Lake in Shawnee. They were married on Nov. 5, 1952. After marriage, they lived in California from 1959 to 1968, moving back to Shawnee in 1968. They lived in a railroad car moving from state to state, living throughout Missouri, Kansas and Texas. They moved back to Shawnee in the early 90’s and settled in Tecumseh and have since lived here.
Florence was a long time member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Shawnee. She loved birds and clocks.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Leo Burns; her parents; and seven siblings.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cecil and Jerry Dunlap of Shawnee, OK; four grandchildren; brother, Karl Johnston of Tecumseh, OK; many greatgrandchildren and great great-grandchildren; and other extended family.
Service was Jan. 19, 2022, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with John Hooper, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
