Billy Joe “Bill” Newsom, 87, of Shawnee, OK, died Jan. 25, 2022, at his home.
He was born April 6, 1934, to William Thurman and Stella Mae (Tabb) Newsom in Shawnee, OK.
Bill was raised in Shawnee on the family farm and graduated with the class of 1953 from Shawnee High School.
Bill owned and operated Bill’s Garage on Gordon Cooper Drive for many years.
He married Margaret Haug on May 3, 1953, at the First Christian Church in Shawnee, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Stella Newsom; two sons-in-law, Steve Kennedy and Mark French; and step-great-grandson, Jakob Ungerecht.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Newsom; three daughters and one son-in-law, Cathy Kennedy of Shawnee, OK, Connie Newsom of Tecumseh, OK, and Tina and Ronnie Sims of Shawnee, OK; one son, Ricky Newsom of Shawnee, OK; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
Service was Jan. 31, 2022, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Clint Dawkins, Sharon Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
