Opal Dinwiddie, 87, passed away on Thursday, Apr. 28, 2022, in her home in Shawnee, OK.

She was born to James DeMarcus and Artha Lee Sledge on May 24, 1934, in Eldorado, OK. Opal married Marlan Dinwiddie on Aug. 14, 1979 in Duncan, OK.

Opal worked as a Jet Engine Parts Inspector at Tinker Air Force Base for over 23 years and developed lifelong friendships throughout her career. She was a devout Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of McLoud for many years. She was also a historian for the town of McLoud while raising her kids there. She enjoyed traveling the US with her husband and loved spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends who were like family.

Opal is survived by her husband, Marlan Dinwiddie, of Shawnee; daughter, Kathy Ethridge and her husband, Jim, of Whitesboro, TX; son, Randel Ledbetter, of Shawnee; stepsons Rick Dinwiddie and wife, Wendy, of Burleson, TX; and Jeff Dinwiddie of Oklahoma City, OK; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Clovis Nolen, Dorothy Parks Jenkins, and Zelda Faye Gill, and many friends whom she considered family.

A graveside ceremony was held at the Tecumseh Cemetery on Tuesday, May 3rd.
