Betty Jean Buttram, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-greatgrandmother, sister, aunt and friend, met Jesus face to face on Sept. 1, 2026, at the age of 95.
Betty was born May 31, 1931, and grew up in Chandler, Oklahoma. At 18, she traveled with family to Whittier, California, where she met and married the love of her life, JD Buttram.
After moving back to Oklahoma, they were blessed with two children, Larry and Kathy. After raising her children, Betty graduated first in her class from the LPN program at Gordon Cooper. Her nursing career gave her countless opportunities to share her wit and spunkiness with others.
Betty loved gardening, playing instruments by ear, singing hymns with her family, teaching Sunday School and Bible studies, and being ornery, always with a grin. She will be remembered for her kindness, quick wit, apple pies, love for her family and strong faith.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, William “Stanley” and Cora (Stice) Smith; husband, JD; brothers, Ernie, Gary and Lonnie; and sisters, Ruth and Goldie.
She is survived by her children, Larry and Diana Buttram and Kathy Dickson; grandchildren, Sarah Barham and husband Jeff, Patrick Buttram and wife Kelly, Sarah Anne Buttram, Kendra Sandlin and husband Gage, Chris Dickson and wife Macie, and Kevin Dickson; 17 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Sept. 3 at Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Funeral services were held Sept. 4 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Mack Peercy officiating. Burial followed at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
