Services for Johnnie Ray Slawson, 79, were held Friday, June 10th, 2022, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Sutton officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee Oklahoma under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Born on Mar. 6th, 1943, in Ringling, OK, to John Lunsford Slawson and Bessie Miller Slawson, he died on June 7, 2022, in an Edmond hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon Slawson, brothers, Donald Slawson and Terry Dale Slawson, and sisters, Evelyn Paul, Verna Dietrich, Barbara Jones and Roxie Linton and sister in law Elizabeth Slawson.
Raised in Ringling and Leon, he attended school there, graduating from Leon High School in 1961. He began working at S. H. Kress & Co. where he met the love of his life, his wife Sharon Slawson. Making Shawnee their home, he went on to work for Sears and Roebuck where he retired in 1996. Johnnie was a professional knife maker and he loved collecting vintage pocketknives and cowboy spurs.
He and Sharon Austin were married on May 11th, 1966, in Shawnee.
Survivors include his son, Stephen Slawson, daughter in law Tammy Slawson. Son Bradly Slawson, daughter in law Connie Childress of Shawnee; sister Patty Ann Slawson, Sand Point, Idaho; brothers, Melburn Slawson of Rush Springs, and Montie Slawson and wife, Savanna, of Rubottom and numerous Nieces and Nephews and Cousins.
