LaHoma Dean Singleton passed away on July 15, 2025, after a fierce battle with cancer. LaHoma was born on Sept. 3, 1947, to Roy E. Martin and Edith C. Martin in Eldon, MO. After graduating as valedictorian from Eldon High School in 1965, she studied music at Oklahoma Baptist University and later attended seminary, where she majored in Christian education.
After graduating, LaHoma obtained her first job as a medical secretary at Shawnee Medical Center. In 1967, she met Jonathan Singleton, and they married in Sept. 1968.
She then went on to serve as a missionary in the Caribbean Islands alongside her husband, Jonathan. Later, she worked for 14 years as the minister of music, administration, and education at First Southern Baptist Church of Chula Vista. After retiring to Shawnee, OK, in 2014, LaHoma kept herself as busy as possible. Disregarding the definition of 'retired', she continued working at First Baptist Church of Shawnee, where she served as organist, children’s choir director, and administrative assistant. She later became the pianist for Temple Baptist Church.
LaHoma was predeceased by her parents and nine siblings.
She is survived by her husband; her daughters, Murrah and Abanna; and her grandchildren, Noah, Ashley, Emma, and Jonathan Paul.
