Wilma Maxine Brooks, 95, of Tecumseh, OK, died March 4, 2022, at The Regency Skilled Nursing in Shawnee, OK.
Maxine was born March 2, 1927, in Earlsboro, OK, to Norpha Montgomery and Violet Olympia (Houtz) Montgomery, the third of eight children. She attended school in Harjo, OK.
Maxine married Charles William Brooks Aug. 19, 1944. They celebrated seventy-five years of marriage in 2019.
Maxine is survived by her son, Charles Michael Brooks and spouse Jackie Brooks of Tecumseh, grandson and spouse, Logan C.P. Brooks and Katie Brooks and great grandson, Riley A. Brooks of Newalla, OK; brothers, Marion Montgomery of Tecumseh; Otho Montgomery and wife Pat Montgomery of Tecumseh; sister, Irma Montgomery also of Tecumseh; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Norpha and Violet Montgomery; her husband, Charles Brooks; sisters, Helen Montgomery, Tecumseh, Roberta Cotton, Arkansas, Evelyn Gamble, Midwest City, OK, Cora Mae Strehlow, Wisconsin; and brothers, Don Montgomery, Maud, OK, and Cecil Montgomery, Shawnee, OK.
Maxine enjoyed fishing, was an avid quilter, accomplished seamstress, active with the Tecumseh Senior Center, a member of Freewill Baptist Church and until 2019 was a water aerobics instructor at St. Gregory’s. She also enjoyed her flower garden spending many hours in them. Back porch conversations with nephews and nieces were important to her. Maxine delighted in spending time playing with great-grandson, Riley.
A graveside service will be held 11 am, April 2, 2022, at Tecumseh Cemetery.
