Letter from the Principal:
5/20/2024
Dear Seniors,
As I finish my 8th year as principal at Macomb it is hard to believe how fast time has flown. From young 5th grade girls and boys, you have grown into young women and men and it has been a privilege to be a small part of that. Some of you have only been with us a short while, but know that we see you as one of our own, no matter how long you have been a part of the Macomb school, and you will always have a home here. You will never again be a Macomb student, you are now and always will be Macomb alumni.
Take a moment to reflect on how much the world has changed in these last few years. You began high school right in the middle of the pandemic and much of that included working remotely from home. Remember the difficulties that were presented and how hard it can be to do things on your own without teachers and friends there to guide and support you. Remember how good it felt to come back together and interact face to face, to see a smile without a mask, to shake hands, high five, and give a hug to those you hold dear. This next chapter of your life may be very similar to those days of the pandemic. You are stepping out on your own to write the chapter and there will be times when you may feel isolated and alone, but know that you are not. I think I can speak for all of our staff when I say that once you walk through the doors at Macomb we all see you as one of our own. That's the thing that sets teaching apart from many other occupations, we don’t do it for the money, we do it to make a change and to be changed. We want to see where you go and what you do, and if you get the opportunity come back and share those stories with us. Know that each of you have left an impression on our lives as we hope that we have left a positive one on yours.
I challenge you to keep moving forward, to dream big, to love big, to always get up each time you fall, and always know that you have the love and support of your Macomb family. I would like to leave you with this quote:
“Take your risks now. As you grow older, you become more fearful and less flexible… Try to keep your mind open to possibilities and your mouth closed on matters that you don’t know about. Limit your ‘always’ and your ‘nevers.’ Continue to share your heart with people even if it’s been broken.”
-Amy Poehler
Sincerely, Steve Martin, MS/HS Principal Macomb Schools
